"On the chess-board lies and hypocrisy do not survive long." -Emanuel LaskerOverview : Starting playing chess in college... inspired to get good by my arrogent friend Chris Young... reached a plateau... These days I'm somewhat of a lazy chessplayer... calculating ability isn't the best... visualizations skills aren't the best... any suggestions to improve? (visualization and chess).... play on FICS as TigreTonio (rating fluctuates but is genrally in the 1400 range for blitz, 1600 for standard)... Favorite openings : For white almost always e4, if e5 then usually play for the Italian Game, love to play against two knights defense, hate the French Defense, usually play c3 against Sicilian (which of course can lead to positions identical to French Defense positions but oh well) For black I alternate between e5 and the Sicilian (where I always follow Nf3 with Nc6, I prefer to keep the options open for where I put the center pawns). Against d4 I usually play the Budapest Gambit or my own queenside fianchetto that I suppose is probably similar to some Indian defense. My endgames could still use some work, I want to master the Queen & King vs. Rook & King endgame, although it has only come up once or twice in actual play it seems important to me. And in all confidenciality I have not fully mastered the mate with two bishops. I really enjoy endgames but find studying them very draining so I don't do it much. I am open to any advice people have to offer on any aspect of the game. Also if anyone knows any websites or services that will send you a daily tactical or endgame problem in the mail, let me know. Thanks. FICS (Free Internet Chess Server) I have this banner not for my personal gain (of which there is none) but because this is the server I use to play chess online (TigreTonio). There are some strong players on here and for the most part, though eccentric, most everyone on here seems to be a pretty decent human being, and many are wildly entertaining and quite intelligent. Shout outs to all my fellow FICSsters!
This photo is of me and my arrogent friend Chris (RIP) whom I mentioned above playing back in college when I first was getting into the game. He beat me this one. |
